Speechify Review 2026: Pricing, Premium, Studio & Pros/Cons
Speechify review covering Free and Premium Reader pricing, Studio and API differences, text to speech, Voice Typing, AI features, refunds, security and G2.

Official Speechify sources verify Reader text-to-speech, Scan and Listen, Voice Typing, AI summaries and chat, podcasts, Voice AI Assistant, plus separate Studio and developer API products.
The consumer reader is designed for accessibility and everyday listening across desktop and mobile, while Studio and API workflows add separate creation and developer surfaces rather than cluttering the reader experience.
Free Reader and USD 29 monthly Premium pricing are public, Studio annual pricing is public, and SpeechifyAI publishes clear developer tiers; however, these are separate products and should not be mistaken as one bundled subscription.
Speechify publishes SOC 2 Type II claims for core voice products, encryption, a 2026 privacy policy, Google API Limited Use commitments and separate Studio privacy and IP terms.
Scored by Surabhi Singh
Speechify is a voice-AI product family best known for its consumer text-to-speech Reader. The Reader turns webpages, PDFs, documents, scanned pages and other text into spoken audio and now adds voice typing, AI summaries, document chat, AI podcasts and a voice assistant. Speechify also sells two separate product lines—Speechify Studio for commercial voice production and SpeechifyAI for developer APIs—so buyers should not assume one subscription unlocks everything under the Speechify brand.
The current consumer pricing remains simple: a permanent Free Reader tier, Premium at $29 per month, and an official annual price of $139 per year, equivalent to about $11.58 per month. Premium expands voice quality, language support, reading speed, scanning, cloud integrations and AI-assisted reading features.

What is Speechify?
Speechify Reader is a text-to-speech and reading-assistance platform for turning written material into audio. It works across web, desktop, mobile and browser-extension environments and is designed for students, professionals, people with dyslexia or other reading challenges and anyone who prefers listening to long text.
Speechify has expanded beyond pure read-aloud functionality. Premium now includes dictation, summaries, conversational document assistance and podcast-style generation, making it closer to a voice-first productivity tool than a traditional screen reader.
Who is Speechify best for?
Who should use this
- Speechify is best for students, professionals, people with dyslexia or reading fatigue, knowledge workers and heavy readers who want to listen to PDFs, webpages and scanned material across devices and benefit from fast playback and natural voices.
Who should avoid this
- Speechify is less suitable for users who only need occasional free read-aloud functionality or who mainly want to create commercial voiceovers. Commercial production belongs to Speechify Studio, while developer use belongs to SpeechifyAI, both of which are billed separately.
Speechify Reader features reviewed
Text-to-Speech Reader
The core Reader converts text into spoken audio. Users can listen to documents, webpages, PDFs, emails and other supported text instead of reading everything on screen.
The Free tier remains useful because it is not time-limited. Premium mainly improves voice quality, speed and the surrounding productivity features.
1,000+ natural voices
The live pricing page currently advertises more than 1,000 high-quality natural voices on Premium, compared with 10 more basic voices on Free.
Voice choice matters during long reading sessions because robotic prosody becomes fatiguing much faster than short demo clips suggest.
60+ languages
Premium currently advertises 60+ languages. This is useful for multilingual reading, language learning and users who regularly work with international documents.
Language support does not guarantee equal voice quality in every language, so users should test the exact language and voice they need during the trial.
Playback up to 5x
Free playback tops out at 1.5x, while Premium supports much faster listening, currently advertised up to 5x.
High-speed playback is particularly useful for review, revision and users who train themselves to listen faster than normal conversational speech.
Scan & Listen
Premium can scan printed or photographed material and convert recognized text to audio. This extends Speechify beyond digital documents and makes it useful for textbooks, handouts and physical pages.
OCR accuracy still depends on image quality, page layout and typography, so dense scientific or mathematical material may require manual checking.
AI Summaries and Chat
Speechify Premium can summarize reading material and let users ask questions about it. This can accelerate review of long documents before deeper reading.
Generated summaries and answers should not be treated as authoritative for legal, medical, academic or technical work without checking the source material.
Voice Typing
Voice Typing turns spoken words into written text across supported desktop and mobile workflows. It lets users move in both directions: text to speech for reading and speech to text for writing.
This is useful for people who think more quickly aloud, have typing limitations or want to dictate emails, documents and notes.
AI Podcasts
AI Podcasts turn source material into podcast-style spoken content. This can make revision or background listening feel more conversational than straightforward document narration.
The feature is designed for personal reading and learning workflows; commercial podcast production should be evaluated separately from Speechify Studio licensing.
Voice AI Assistant
Speechify's current Reader pricing page promotes a Voice AI Assistant that users can talk to about websites, books and other material.
This adds a voice-first conversational layer to the reading experience but still relies on AI-generated responses that may require verification.
Cloud storage integrations
Premium includes Google Drive, Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive integrations for bringing documents into the reading workflow.
Third-party permissions and the connected provider's own policies continue to apply.
Chrome, desktop and mobile access
Speechify is available through web, Chrome and other browser extensions, Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. Cross-device access is one of the platform's practical advantages for users who read at a desk, on a phone and while commuting.
Speechify Studio
Speechify Studio is a separate product for creating voiceovers, dubbing and other publishable audio. The current Studio pricing page lists Free, Starter at $100 per year and Creator at $300 per year.
Paid Studio plans include commercial usage rights and voice cloning. Those rights are not automatically granted by a Reader Premium subscription.
SpeechifyAI developer platform
SpeechifyAI is also separate from Reader. It provides text-to-speech, voice cloning, streaming and voice-agent infrastructure through APIs and SDKs.
Current public SpeechifyAI pricing includes a Free tier with 50,000 TTS characters and 60 voice-agent minutes per month, Starter at $10, Pro at $99 and Scale at $499. Public TTS rates range from roughly $6 to $10 per million characters depending on tier.
Security and privacy
Speechify's current privacy policy says it does not sell personal information and uses industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. Speechify also publicly states that it is SOC 2 compliant and that enterprise customers can request the report.
Security claims should still be evaluated in the context of the exact Reader, Studio or developer product being deployed.

4.9/5
4.2/5
4.8/5
This is a research-based SearchSagar editorial score rather than hands-on testing. Speechify scores especially well for accessibility, cross-device usability and breadth of voice workflows. Pricing transparency is slightly lower because Reader, Studio and SpeechifyAI are distinct products that can easily be mistaken for one bundled subscription.
Pros
- Permanent Free Reader tier for basic listening
- 1,000+ Premium voices and 60+ languages
- Fast playback, scanning and cross-device access support heavy reading workflows
- AI summaries, chat, podcasts and Voice AI Assistant extend beyond basic TTS
- Voice Typing adds a useful speech-to-text workflow
- Cloud integrations make document import straightforward
- Speechify publishes encryption and SOC 2 compliance claims
Cons
- $29 monthly Premium is expensive for occasional read-aloud use
- Reader, Studio and SpeechifyAI use separate subscriptions and billing
- Commercial voiceover rights belong to the appropriate Studio plan, not ordinary Reader Premium
- Default promotional trial is only 3 days unless signup shows otherwise
- Monthly, quarterly and discounted Reader subscriptions are generally non-refundable
- G2's 4.4/5 seller average spans multiple Speechify products rather than the consumer Reader alone
What do Speechify users say?
G2 currently lists the Speechify seller at 4.4 out of 5 from 49 reviews. That rating spans seven product profiles, including Studio, voice cloning and dubbing, while the Text to Speech Reader profile itself currently has no meaningful standalone review base.
Across Studio and voice-related reviews, recurring positive themes include natural-sounding voices, ease of use and quick audio creation. Some users mention pricing, occasional voice nuance limitations and processing variability. Because the review pool crosses several products, SearchSagar does not present 4.4/5 as a Reader-specific customer score.
Free plan vs free trial
Speechify has both a permanent Free Reader and a promotional Free Trial. They are not the same thing.
The Free Reader can be used indefinitely without automatically converting to Premium. The promotional Free Trial is currently three days unless a different period is displayed at signup, requires a payment method and automatically converts to a paid plan unless canceled before it ends.
Cancellation and refund policy
Consumer subscriptions can be canceled through Speechify account settings or the app store used for purchase. Cancellation stops future renewal, while paid benefits continue until the end of the current term. Unused days are not prorated.
Speechify's current refund policy says monthly, quarterly and discounted subscriptions are non-refundable. Annual Reader subscriptions can generally be refunded when the request is made within seven days and no more than 500 HD words have been used. Fraudulent or erroneous charges can also be reviewed. Apple and Google purchases follow their respective store policies.

Speechify alternatives to consider
Relevant approved SearchSagar alternatives include ElevenLabs, Murf and Descript. ElevenLabs is strongest for high-end voice generation, cloning, dubbing and APIs. Murf is focused on commercial voiceover production with straightforward project and generation-hour plans. Descript is strongest when AI speech belongs inside a broader podcast and video editing workflow.

Final verdict: is Speechify worth it?
Speechify is worth considering when listening is a daily productivity or accessibility workflow. Users who regularly consume long PDFs, study material or webpages can get meaningful value from faster playback, natural voices, scanning and cross-device access.
The permanent Free tier should be the starting point. Premium makes sense when voice quality, 5x speed and AI features save enough time to justify the price. Users who need commercial voiceovers or embedded TTS should ignore Reader pricing and evaluate Studio or SpeechifyAI separately.
