Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft AI assistant for chat, research, creation and work across Microsoft 365
Current Microsoft sources verify web and work-grounded chat, Microsoft 365 app integration, voice, vision, agents, Work IQ, Researcher, Analyst, Facilitator and model choice.
Copilot is embedded in familiar Microsoft surfaces and the new Copilot app adapts to personal versus work accounts, though capabilities differ materially by license and account type.
Free access and personal Microsoft 365 prices are public, and business Copilot pricing is published, but the product family spans personal subscriptions, business add-ons and bundles rather than one simple price.
Microsoft documents enterprise data protection, tenant isolation, Microsoft 365 permissions, encryption, GDPR/EU commitments and no foundation-model training on organizational prompts, responses or Graph data.

About Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot is Microsoft's AI assistant for personal and work use. It provides web-grounded chat, voice, vision, image creation and research, while licensed work accounts add Microsoft 365 grounding through Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and organizational data. Microsoft renamed the Microsoft 365 Copilot app to Microsoft Copilot in 2026, so current packaging spans free consumer access, Microsoft 365 personal plans and business Copilot licenses.
Best for
Individuals and organizations already using Microsoft products who want AI chat, research and creation connected to Microsoft 365 applications and, for work accounts, organizational data.
Microsoft Copilot pros and cons
Pros
- Copilot is deeply integrated into Microsoft 365, so licensed work users can work with authorized email, documents, meetings and chats without manually moving context into another assistant.
- The current Copilot experience includes voice and vision, allowing users to speak naturally and ask questions about a shared screen or mobile camera feed.
- Business Copilot adds Work IQ, advanced research and analysis, model choice and pre-built agents such as Researcher, Analyst and Facilitator.
- Personal Microsoft 365 plans bundle Copilot with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, storage and device access instead of selling AI as an isolated subscription.
- Microsoft provides mature enterprise data protection: organizational prompts, responses and Microsoft Graph data are not used to train foundation models.
Cons
- −Copilot packaging is complicated because free consumer access, Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, Premium, Pro and business Copilot licenses all provide different AI limits and entitlements.
- −The strongest work-grounded capabilities require the correct Microsoft 365 and Copilot licenses and are not equivalent to the free personal assistant.
- −Generative answers can still be inaccurate, and Microsoft explicitly recommends checking facts before making decisions or taking action.
- −Vision and some agentic features have capacity, language, geography or license restrictions and may roll out gradually.
- −The G2 Microsoft seller profile lists 431 Microsoft Copilot reviews but does not expose a product-specific rating in the retrieved result, so SearchSagar does not reuse Microsoft's broader seller average as a Copilot rating.
