Sora no longer has active pricing for new users because the product is discontinued. OpenAI shut down the Sora web and app experiences on April 26, 2026 and removed the Videos API, Sora 2 and Sora 2 Pro on September 24, 2026.

The figures below are therefore historical final API rates for migration and cost-audit purposes. They should not be interpreted as prices a new developer can still purchase today.

Quick verdict

There is no current Sora subscription or active video API to buy as of September 25, 2026. The final standard API pricing before shutdown was $0.10 per generated second for Sora 2 at 720p and $0.30, $0.50 or $0.70 per second for Sora 2 Pro at 720p, 1024p and 1080p. Batch pricing was historically half those standard rates. Existing users should use these numbers only to reconcile old invoices or compare migration cost with active alternatives.

Can you still buy Sora?

No. Sora is not an active product for new adoption. The consumer product closed in April and the developer API shutdown date has now passed.

OpenAI's deprecations page does not list a successor for the Videos API, Sora 2 or Sora 2 Pro.

Final Sora 2 API pricing

Before shutdown, Sora 2 cost $0.10 per generated second at 720p standard processing.

A four-second clip therefore had a base generation cost of $0.40, an eight-second clip $0.80 and a 12-second clip $1.20 before retries or other workflow costs.

Final Sora 2 Pro 720p pricing

Sora 2 Pro cost $0.30 per generated second at 720p.

That translated to $1.20 for four seconds, $2.40 for eight seconds and $3.60 for 12 seconds before iteration.

Final Sora 2 Pro 1024p pricing

The 1024p Sora 2 Pro rate was $0.50 per generated second.

Historical base cost was therefore $2.00 for a four-second clip, $4.00 for eight seconds and $6.00 for 12 seconds.

Final Sora 2 Pro 1080p pricing

The highest listed Sora 2 Pro standard rate was $0.70 per generated second at 1080p.

A four-second generation cost $2.80, eight seconds $5.60 and 12 seconds $8.40 before retries.

Historical Batch API pricing

Before shutdown, batch processing cut listed video-generation rates by half: Sora 2 720p at $0.05 per second, Sora 2 Pro 720p at $0.15, 1024p at $0.25 and 1080p at $0.35.

Those prices are historical because the Videos API and Sora model family are no longer active.

Was there a free Sora API tier?

No. OpenAI's legacy Sora model pages listed the Free API tier as unsupported.

Consumer access previously depended on OpenAI product packaging, but the consumer Sora experience is also discontinued.

What happened to Sora subscriptions?

OpenAI's discontinuation guidance routes subscription refund questions through the applicable ChatGPT refund process rather than maintaining an active Sora-specific subscription policy.

Because Sora is closed, there is no current Sora plan ladder to compare.

What happens to purchased Sora credits?

OpenAI says purchased ChatGPT/Sora credits can still be used for Codex if the user chooses.

This is different from having active Sora video credits. The value is redirected to another OpenAI product rather than keeping the video service alive.

Can Sora credits be refunded?

OpenAI directs refund questions to its ChatGPT subscription refund guidance. Eligibility depends on the applicable purchase and billing route.

SearchSagar does not assume that every unused Sora-related balance is automatically refundable.

Sora asset export

OpenAI currently provides a Sora sunset export path. Existing users can request an export of content created in Sora and receive the resulting archive by email.

OpenAI also says Sora-associated data will be permanently deleted after discontinuation and after any final export period, so asset preservation should be treated as urgent.

Sora API migration cost

A migration comparison should focus on finished-shot cost rather than one nominal generation rate. Sora 2's $0.10 per second looked inexpensive, but real production cost included failed generations, alternate prompts, editing and potentially higher-resolution Pro output.

When comparing alternatives, calculate how many attempts are normally needed for a publishable shot and whether the replacement includes editing, upscaling, audio and commercial rights in the same plan.

Runway pricing for Sora migration

Runway currently offers Free, Standard at $15 monthly or $12 annual-equivalent, Pro at $35/$28 and Max at $95/$76. Standard includes 625 credits, Pro 2,250 and Max 9,500.

Runway is particularly relevant for teams replacing not only generation but also editing and production workflows.

Pika pricing for Sora migration

Pika currently offers Free, Starter at $10 monthly or $8 annual-equivalent with 900 credits, Creator at $35/$28 with 3,150 credits and Fancy starting at $95/$76 with 8,550 credits.

Commercial licensing begins on Creator under the current consumer plan table.

Adobe Firefly pricing for Sora migration

Adobe Firefly currently lists Standard at $9.99 monthly, Pro at $19.99, Pro Plus at $49.99 and Premium at $199.99 before any limited-time promotional reductions.

Firefly paid plans include monthly generative-credit allocations and access to video generation plus selected partner models.

Which replacement is closest in cost?

There is no direct apples-to-apples replacement because Sora's final API was usage-based while Runway, Pika and Firefly primarily sell subscription credit bundles to creators.

Developers should compare each provider's API separately if the old Sora workflow was programmatic.

Final pricing verdict

Sora no longer has a meaningful current price because there is no active product to buy. The final published rates remain useful for teams reconciling historical spend or building a migration model.

New budgets should be built around active platforms rather than trying to preserve a discontinued Sora cost assumption.

Expert tip

Take your last 20 Sora jobs and calculate the true cost per accepted clip, including retries and editing. Use that figure—not the old headline per-second API rate—as the benchmark when evaluating a replacement.
