Claude Pricing 2026: Free, Pro, Max, Team & Enterprise

Claude pricing has become more flexible—and more complex—in 2026. Individuals can choose Free, Pro or one of two Max tiers. Teams can mix Standard and Premium seats. New Enterprise plans combine an annual per-seat access fee with metered usage billed separately. Anthropic also lets eligible paid users buy usage credits or discounted bundles when included limits are not enough.

The result is that Claude's headline subscription price no longer tells the whole cost story. A Pro user who stays inside included limits can spend a predictable $20 per month or $200 per year. A heavy Claude Code or Research user may add credits or move to Max. An Enterprise organization pays for access and then pays standard API rates for actual consumption.

Claude pricing at a glance

Claude Free: $0

Claude Free is a real ongoing plan rather than a timed trial. Anthropic's current pricing page lists web, desktop and mobile chat; web search; memory; file creation; code execution; artifacts; connectors; extended thinking; and access to the core Claude experience. Usage is lower than paid plans and Claude Code is not listed as part of Free.

Free makes sense for occasional writing, questions, basic research and file work. It is also the correct evaluation path before paying because Claude does not need a traditional free trial: users can test the interaction style and core capabilities indefinitely, then upgrade when usage becomes the constraint.

Claude Pro: $20/month or $200/year

Claude Pro is the mainstream individual plan. The monthly price is $20 in the US. Annual billing costs $200 upfront, which works out to about $16.67 to $17 per month and saves roughly $40 versus paying $20 for twelve months.

Pro includes more usage, Claude Code, longer multi-step tasks, Research, projects and access to more Claude models. Anthropic's latest pricing also highlights task handoff and scheduling plus specialist work surfaces such as Claude Design, Slides, Docs and Science, though feature availability can evolve by rollout.

The main limit is capacity. Anthropic documents session and weekly usage controls rather than promising one unlimited quota. Long context, Claude Code, Research and file-heavy work can consume more usage than short chats. Pro is therefore excellent value when the user's work is substantial but not constantly agentic.

Who should buy Pro?

Pro is the best starting plan for writers, researchers, developers and analysts who use Claude regularly. The annual plan is particularly attractive for users who already know Claude will remain part of their workflow for a year. Monthly billing is better when the workload is seasonal or the buyer is still comparing Claude with ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity.

Claude Max 5x: $100/month

Max 5x is aimed at frequent users who repeatedly exhaust Pro. Anthropic says it provides approximately five times Pro's session capacity, higher output limits, priority access at high-traffic times and early access to advanced features. Claude Code is included.

The pricing jump from $20 to $100 is substantial. Max should be justified by interruption cost. If a developer loses productive hours waiting for limits to reset, $100 may be economical. If the user only reaches a limit occasionally, usage credits or a discounted usage bundle can be cheaper than permanently increasing the subscription.

Claude Max 20x: $200/month

Max 20x is the highest-capacity consumer tier at $200 per month. It provides roughly twenty times Pro capacity per session and is designed for users who work with Claude throughout the day. Like Max 5x, it is currently monthly-only.

At this price, buyers should compare Max with alternatives and with API-style usage. A $200 subscription can be rational for a full-time developer, researcher or analyst whose output depends heavily on Claude, but it is easy to overbuy if the user's main tasks are ordinary chat and drafting.

Claude Team Standard: $20 annual / $25 monthly

Team requires at least two members and supports up to 150 seats. Standard seats cost $20 per member per month when billed annually or $25 monthly. Anthropic says Standard seats include more usage than Pro, Claude Code, longer multi-step work, projects, enterprise search, connectors and centralized administration.

Team is not simply a volume discount on Pro. It adds a shared organizational workspace, administration and commercial data handling. Anthropic states that Team content is not used to train Claude by default. Teams that work with internal documents should compare these controls against consumer plans rather than choosing only on price.

Claude Team Premium: $100 annual / $125 monthly

Premium seats provide five times the usage of Team Standard. They cost $100 per member per month when billed annually or $125 monthly. Team organizations can mix seat types, which lets administrators assign Premium only to people who genuinely need higher capacity.

This mixed-seat model is one of Claude's strongest business-pricing features. A 30-person company might need only five Premium seats for engineers and researchers while keeping 25 employees on Standard. Buying maximum capacity for every employee would materially increase cost without increasing value for lighter users.

Usage credits after plan limits

Anthropic lets eligible paid users continue working after included plan limits by enabling usage credits. Once the included allowance is exhausted, subsequent work is billed at standard API pricing rates rather than simply blocking the user.

This changes the upgrade decision. A user who hits Pro limits on one or two unusually heavy days can pay for incremental usage instead of moving permanently to Max. Teams can also set organizational and user-level spend limits so credits do not create uncontrolled overage.

Discounted usage bundles

In May 2026, Anthropic introduced discounted usage bundles for Pro, Max and Team. Current bundles are $50 of usage credits for $45, $250 for $200 and $1,000 for $700, representing 10%, 20% and 30% discounts respectively. The balance can be used across Claude, Claude Desktop, mobile, Claude Code, Cowork and supported third-party products tied to the Claude account.

Individual Pro and Max users can currently purchase up to $2,000 worth of discounted bundles per month, while Team owners can purchase up to $3,000. Usage beyond bundle limits can still fall back to standard rates where enabled.

Do not count on the announced Agent SDK credit

Anthropic announced a separate Agent SDK monthly-credit program in June 2026, but then paused the change before it took effect. The current Help Center explicitly says the planned Agent SDK credit is not available and that Agent SDK, claude -p and related third-party usage continue to draw from subscription limits for now.

This is a useful example of why Claude pricing articles need active verification. Older copies of Anthropic's announcement can still describe the proposed credits, but current budgeting should follow the paused-policy notice rather than the superseded proposal.

Claude Enterprise: seat fee plus usage

Current new Enterprise plans use one Enterprise seat type, billed annually, with a minimum of 20 seats. The numerical seat price is not publicly listed on Anthropic's Help Center. The seat provides access to Claude, Claude Code and longer work surfaces, but no token allowance is included.

All Enterprise usage is billed separately at standard API rates based on actual consumption. Anthropic says these usage-based plans have no plan or seat-level usage limits; instead, administrators control spending through organization and user-level caps. This can remove productivity interruptions but makes forecasting more dependent on measurement and governance.

Enterprise also adds stronger security and administration, including audit logs, SCIM, custom retention and other governance features. Buyers should request a total-cost model that includes seat fees, expected tokens by workflow, onboarding, support and any contractual requirements.

Monthly versus annual Pro: break-even logic

The annual Pro discount is simple but only valuable if Claude remains useful for most of the year. Twelve monthly payments total $240, while the annual subscription costs $200 upfront, a $40 nominal saving. A user who expects to use Claude for at least ten months generally pays less on annual billing than twelve monthly renewals, but monthly billing preserves the option to stop sooner or move to another platform.

The decision should also account for Max. Someone who prepays Pro annually and later upgrades to Max can receive account credit for eligible remaining Pro balance under Anthropic's current Max billing rules. That reduces the risk of choosing annual Pro before knowing whether heavier usage will eventually justify Max.

How to budget usage credits

A practical way to manage usage credits is to separate ordinary chat from high-consumption work. Short drafting, question answering and light analysis should usually stay inside the base allowance. Longer Claude Code sessions, Research jobs, multi-file analysis and agentic work are more likely to push an account into paid consumption.

Individuals should set a monthly ceiling for credits before enabling them. Team administrators should use per-user limits so one unusually heavy workflow cannot consume the organization's full balance. Discounted bundles are most useful after a stable usage pattern exists; buying a large bundle before measuring consumption can simply prepay spend that would never have occurred.

Claude API is separate

Claude Pro and Max do not include general API usage through the Claude Console. API-key usage is billed separately. The same is true for developers who use Claude models through supported cloud providers: the billing relationship belongs to that provider or API account.

This distinction matters because Claude Code can be accessed through a subscription or through API credentials. Subscription usage follows plan limits and credits; API-key usage follows token pricing. Teams should standardize the authentication route they expect employees and automation to use so costs are attributed correctly.

Cancellation and refunds

Pro and Max can be canceled at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and Anthropic recommends canceling at least 24 hours before the next billing date. Mobile subscriptions follow the relevant app-store billing process.

Anthropic states that payments are generally non-refundable unless its terms or applicable law say otherwise. Eligible customers in the European Economic Area and United Kingdom may receive a prorated refund within 14 days of purchase. Organizations should follow the commercial contract that governs Team or Enterprise billing.

Which Claude plan should you choose?

Free: occasional users and evaluators. Pro: the default for regular individual work. Max 5x: frequent users whose output is materially interrupted by Pro limits. Max 20x: people who work in Claude throughout the day. Team Standard: managed organizational use. Team Premium: power users inside a team. Enterprise: organizations that need stronger governance and are comfortable with metered consumption.

Claude pricing versus major alternatives

ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month but currently has no annual consumer discount, while Claude Pro can be prepaid at $200 per year. Google AI Pro costs $19.99 per month and bundles Gemini with Google storage and ecosystem benefits. Perplexity Pro costs $20 per month or $200 per year and is more research-first.

At the mainstream level, pricing is close enough that workflow fit should dominate. Claude's strongest pricing advantage is the annual Pro option; its strongest pricing risk is variable overage once heavy users rely on credits, bundles or Enterprise metering.

Final pricing verdict

Claude Pro is competitively priced and unusually attractive for annual buyers at $200 per year. Max is expensive but clear: it buys capacity, not an entirely separate product. Team pricing is flexible because Standard and Premium seats can be mixed.

The complex part is overage. Credits, discounted bundles and Enterprise metering can be valuable because they prevent hard stops, but they also require budgeting discipline. Buyers who monitor which workflows consume the most usage can keep Claude economical; buyers who treat agentic work as unlimited are more likely to see unexpected spend.
