Scored by Shikha Goyal
Claude has developed from a text-focused AI assistant into a broader knowledge-work platform. In 2026, Anthropic's product combines conversational reasoning, web search, Research, memory, projects, artifacts, file creation, code execution, workplace connectors, Claude Code and longer multi-step work in one account. That makes Claude relevant not only to writers, but also to researchers, developers, analysts and teams working with large collections of documents or code.
The product's strongest identity remains structured knowledge work. Claude is particularly well suited to long documents, complex writing, analytical conversations and code-heavy tasks where maintaining context matters. Its main buying constraint is capacity: Free and Pro users can hit session or weekly limits, Max pricing rises sharply for heavy individual use, and organizational plans increasingly combine seat pricing with usage-based spending.

What is Claude?
Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant for writing, research, analysis, coding, files and multi-step work. Users can chat with Claude on the web, desktop and mobile apps, search the web, create files, execute code, connect external tools, organize work into projects and use artifacts for interactive or reusable outputs. Paid plans add more usage and access to specialist Anthropic surfaces such as Claude Code and advanced Research.
Anthropic's 2026 product direction increasingly treats Claude as one continuous work environment rather than a set of separate chat features. The current pricing page describes task handoff and scheduling, Claude Design, Slides and Docs, Claude Science, Claude Code, projects and access to Claude in Chrome and Microsoft 365 on paid plans. Some capabilities remain plan- or rollout-dependent, so buyers should confirm the exact feature set shown in their account.
Who should use Claude?
Claude is a strong fit for professionals whose work depends on reading and producing substantial amounts of text, code or structured analysis. Researchers can use web search and Research for multi-step source gathering. Writers and marketers benefit from natural drafting and revision. Developers can move from discussion into repository-aware work through Claude Code. Analysts can upload data or documents, ask Claude to execute code and produce files such as spreadsheets, documents or presentations.
Teams benefit most when useful context already lives in services Claude can connect to. Anthropic's connector system can retrieve data from authorized tools such as Google Workspace, GitHub, Microsoft 365, Slack and other services available through remote connectors or MCP. Instead of manually uploading the same files repeatedly, users can bring permitted work context into the conversation.
Claude is less suitable for people who mainly want high-volume image or video generation. Anthropic's focus is still knowledge work rather than being a general creative-media suite. It is also a weaker fit for buyers who need a single fixed "unlimited" price: session limits, weekly limits, usage credits and Enterprise metering mean the real cost can vary with workload.
How we evaluated Claude
Testing methodology
Testing Evidence
Writing, reasoning and long-context work
Claude's reputation is closely tied to sustained context and writing quality. G2's recent LLM review coverage highlights recurring user praise for natural writing, tone control and the ability to engage with large documents or codebases rather than reducing them to shallow summaries. That aligns with Claude's positioning around long-context knowledge work.
In practical use, long context matters when a task cannot be compressed into one prompt. A legal or policy team may need to compare multiple documents; a consultant may need to synthesize interviews and research; a developer may need to reason across a repository; a writer may need consistent style across a long draft. The useful measure is not the theoretical context-window maximum by itself, but whether Claude preserves the important details over a sequence of instructions and revisions.
Claude still requires verification. Long context reduces the chance that relevant material is omitted, but it does not guarantee correct interpretation. Users should trace conclusions back to source material, especially when the answer affects finance, policy, contracts, software behavior or other high-consequence decisions.
Web search and Research
Feature Breakdown
retrieves current public information for factual questions
runs multi-step searches and produces cited synthesis on paid plans
creates and edits spreadsheets, documents, presentations and PDFs while running code for analysis
organizes recurring work and preserves useful context
agentic repository work across terminal, IDE, web, mobile and source-control workflows
retrieves or acts on authorized external services through remote connectors and MCP
creates reusable interactive or document-style work products
Anthropic separates quick web search from deeper Research. Web search is appropriate when the answer can be found in one or two searches. Research is designed for questions that require multiple searches, comparison and synthesis. Anthropic says Research is available on paid Claude plans and produces answers with citations that users can inspect.
This is a meaningful distinction for professional work. A fast answer can optimize for speed, while Research can spend more time exploring competing explanations or filling evidence gaps. The limitation is the same as with any AI research agent: source selection is still automated. A cited report can still over-weight weak sources or draw a questionable inference from accurate facts.
File creation and code execution
Claude can create and edit files directly in conversation. Anthropic's current documentation says this includes Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, Word documents and PDFs, with code execution available across Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise on supported Claude surfaces. That expands Claude from analysis into artifact production.
For analysts, this means Claude can inspect uploaded data, run code, calculate results and return a usable file rather than stopping at prose. For business users, it can turn source material into reports or presentations. The output still needs review: formulas, chart assumptions, layout and copied facts should be checked before a file is distributed externally.
Claude Code
Claude Code is one of Claude's strongest differentiators for technical users. It can inspect a repository, edit files, run commands and tests, work through issues, perform refactors and fit into GitHub, GitLab, VS Code, Cursor, JetBrains and MCP-enabled development workflows. Pro, Max and Team subscribers receive Claude Code access within their subscription.
The benefit is continuity between reasoning and implementation. A developer can discuss architecture in Claude, then use Claude Code against the actual codebase. The risk is also larger because the agent can change files and run commands. Teams should use version control, review diffs, require tests and configure permissions before allowing broad autonomous actions.
Longer multi-step work and task handoff
Anthropic's current Claude experience increasingly supports longer work that searches, runs code, creates files and continues beyond a simple response. The product's Cowork capabilities are being integrated more closely into Claude, and Anthropic's current Max documentation describes handing off reports, spreadsheets and presentations as longer tasks.
These tasks consume more usage than a short chat. Anthropic explicitly warns that Cowork-style agentic work can use limits faster. For buyers comparing Pro with Max, that difference is important: the more often Claude is asked to search the web, run code, manipulate files or work through a multi-step assignment, the more capacity becomes a purchasing decision rather than a background detail.
Connectors and MCP
Claude's connector architecture is broad and increasingly consistent across surfaces. Anthropic says remote web connectors work across Claude, Cowork, Claude Desktop, mobile and Claude Code. They inherit the user's permissions from the connected service, so a connector cannot retrieve a file or channel the user could not access directly.
This makes connectors useful for enterprise knowledge work but does not eliminate external-service risk. A Google Drive, Slack, Linear or GitHub connector remains subject to the permissions and terms of that service. Third-party MCP servers also need their own security review because they can expose tools or actions beyond Anthropic's native environment.
Projects, memory and reusable work context
Claude's usefulness increases when work is recurring rather than disposable. Projects let users group related conversations and documents so a client engagement, research program or product initiative does not need to be reconstructed from scratch in every chat. Anthropic's current pricing page also includes memory across conversations, which can reduce repetitive setup for preferences and ongoing work where the feature is enabled.
These continuity features should not be treated as a substitute for source management. A remembered preference can be helpful; a critical project requirement should still live in an authoritative file or system of record. Teams should design workflows so Claude can retrieve current source material through projects or connectors rather than relying on memory to preserve business facts indefinitely.
Artifacts, Design, Slides and Docs
Claude's output surfaces are expanding beyond chat. Artifacts provide a way to create and iterate on structured content alongside a conversation, while Anthropic's latest plan materials also highlight Claude Design, Slides and Docs on paid tiers. File creation can generate common office formats directly, reducing the gap between reasoning and a deliverable.
This matters when comparing Claude with a pure model interface. The value is not only whether Claude drafts a strong paragraph; it is whether the same context can be turned into a spreadsheet, document, presentation, code artifact or other work product without rebuilding the reasoning in another tool. The tradeoff is that generated deliverables still need layout, formula and factual review before external use.
Pricing and usage model
| Plan | Current US price | Usage position |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Limited usage; broad core features |
| Pro | $20/month or $200/year | Standard paid capacity plus Claude Code, Research and longer work |
| Max 5x | $100/month | About 5x Pro session capacity |
| Max 20x | $200/month | About 20x Pro session capacity |
| Team Standard | $20/member/month annual or $25 monthly | More usage than Pro in a managed workspace |
| Team Premium | $100/member/month annual or $125 monthly | 5x Standard Team usage |
| Enterprise | Contact sales seat fee + metered usage | All usage billed separately at standard API rates |
Claude Pro has one of the clearest annual discounts among major consumer AI assistants: $20 monthly or $200 billed upfront for a year. Max is monthly-only at $100 or $200. Team requires at least two members and supports mixed Standard and Premium seats, which lets organizations reserve higher capacity for power users.
Anthropic has also introduced optional usage credits and discounted usage bundles. Paid users can continue after included limits by switching to consumption-based pricing, and eligible Pro, Max and Team users can pre-purchase bundles such as $50 of credits for $45, $250 for $200 or $1,000 for $700. This improves continuity but makes monthly cost less fixed.
One current caveat: Anthropic announced a separate Agent SDK monthly-credit system but paused that change on June 15, 2026. The Help Center says the proposed Agent SDK credit is not currently taking effect, so buyers should not budget around that credit until Anthropic publishes a new active policy.
Enterprise billing
Claude Enterprise has moved to a usage-based model for new plans. Anthropic says the current Enterprise seat is billed annually and includes access to Claude, Claude Code and longer work surfaces, but actual Claude usage is billed separately at standard API rates from the first token. There is no included per-seat usage allowance under the current usage-based model.
Enterprise requires at least 20 seats according to current purchasing documentation. Administrators can use spend limits and reporting to control consumption. This model can be attractive for organizations that dislike hard per-seat usage caps, but it shifts cost predictability from a fixed allowance to active consumption management.
Security and trust
Anthropic's commercial security documentation lists SOC 2 Type I and Type II, ISO 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 42001:2023, and HIPAA-configurable options for eligible deployments. Team documentation states that Anthropic does not train Claude on Team content by default, while Enterprise adds stronger governance such as auditability, SCIM and retention controls.
Certifications are useful procurement signals, not a substitute for a security review. Organizations should still evaluate connector permissions, retention settings, model-training terms, regional requirements, key management and the risks associated with Claude Code or agentic tools that can make changes.
What G2 users say
G2's 2026 LLM review roundup lists Claude at about 4.6 out of 5 from more than 450 reviews. The strongest recurring themes are natural writing, useful long-context handling, clear explanations and deep discussion. Those signals fit Claude's strongest use cases: substantial text, analysis and code rather than lightweight novelty.
Recurring complaints include usage limits, restricted access to some capabilities, occasional slowness and workflow inconsistencies. These complaints matter because Claude's value often grows with task complexity; the same user who benefits most from long research or code work is also more likely to notice capacity constraints.

SearchSagar rating
Rating Breakdown
4.8/5
4.6/5
4.4/5
4.8/5
The 4.7 SearchSagar score reflects Claude's strong feature depth, mature connectors and security posture, and consistent positioning for long-context knowledge work. Pricing/value is lower because heavy use can move from a predictable subscription into Max pricing, credits or usage-based enterprise spending.
Claude versus major alternatives
ChatGPT is the broader alternative for users who want research, coding, image generation, voice and multi-step Work in one environment. Gemini is the stronger ecosystem choice for users living in Gmail, Drive, Docs and Google Search. Perplexity is the most research-first option for people who want citations and source discovery to be the default interaction.
Claude is most distinctive when the work involves large volumes of text or code, natural writing and sustained context. The alternatives become more compelling when visual creation, Google ecosystem integration or citation-first search matters more than Claude's long-context orientation.

Final verdict
Claude is one of the strongest general-purpose AI products for serious knowledge work. Pro combines a competitive $20 monthly price with an annual discount and useful access to Claude Code and Research. The connector ecosystem and current Team model make Claude credible for organizational use, while Enterprise removes seat-level usage caps in favor of metered consumption.
The buying decision should focus on workload intensity. Claude is easy to recommend for writing, research, long documents and code, but the economics change quickly when users hand off long tasks all day. Teams that monitor capacity and maintain human review can get substantially more value than teams that assume fluent output and agentic automation are self-validating.
