About Nana Patekar’s NAAM Foundation:
Naam foundation is a non-governmental organization created by Indian film actors Nana Patekar and Makarand Anaspure. Moreover, the foundation works for the improvement of farmers in drought-prone areas of Marathwada and Vidarbha in Maharashtra state, India. Therefore, the NAAM foundation is mainly to help farmers so that they can live peacefully at the time of drought.
The rapid degeneration of villages as a result of droughts, the increase in farmer suicides, and the constant water crisis, are the main problems to which NAAM is finding solutions. In particular by educating farmers, by restoring the balance in the use of stored and groundwater, by reviving existing canals and abandoned water projects. Therefore, many projects have been completed and others are in preparation, to help villagers and farmers lead a fulfilling and dignified life. This foundation will help farmers to cope with the losses they are going through because of drought in their area.
The NAAM has grown from an organization to a movement, strengthening the human spirit by eliminating the turmoil of farmers. We aim to facilitate development in disadvantaged villages and add happiness to the lives of people across the country. Hence, all of our accomplishments would not have been possible without the help and support of our patrons, partners, and friends. Therefore, the foundation is doing a great job by helping all the farmers and making their life easier.
Projects of Naam foundation
Water Conservation
Water is an essential natural resource, especially in areas that are severely hit by drought. It is necessary for farming and if the area is hit by the drought then there is a destruction of farming which leads to ruin the lives of farmers. Therefore, lack of water leads to unpaid farming.
NAAM has taken on the enormous task of water conservation across Maharashtra, finding long-term remedies to reduce the effects of drought. Therefore, Using heavy machinery, we carried out excavation and widening work on existing rivers and nalas to improve their storage capacities. This indirectly increases groundwater levels, as well as wells in the dominant area.
Farming
NAAM introduced modern agricultural methods, techniques and innovations to a number of farmers, which increased their agricultural knowledge as well as their income.
Education
Along with conserving water and improving agricultural techniques, NAAM also promotes the education of farmers’ children. Hence, this will give birth to a well-educated second generation. It also focuses on educating the children and believing in making the lives of the farmer’s children.
NAAM has taken on the responsibility of educating the children of farm families who are victims of suicide. For this purpose, two schools have been built.
Health
By taking a holistic view of the lives of the farmers we serve, good health and well-being play a vital role in maintaining their thriving and productive ecosystem. Health is also important for the farmer’s life, if they are not healthy they can’t feed their families.
Two specific health initiatives undertaken by NAAM in this area included: issuing medical concession cards and medical camps, both of which were well received.
