About Mackenzie Scott:
Mackenzie Scott was born in San Francisco, California, on April 7, 1970, to a financial planner father and a stay-at-home mother. She seems to have started writing professionally at age six when she wrote The Book Worm, a 142-page book that got lost in a storm.
She graduated from Lakeville, Connecticut’s Hotchkiss School in 1988. Tuttle graduated from Princeton University with a bachelor’s degree in English in 1992, where she studied with Nobel laureate Toni Morrison, who described Tuttle as “one of the best students I’ve ever had in my creative writing courses. She also helped Morrison study his novel Jazz, published in 1992.
After graduating, Scott applied for a research associate job at DH Shaw, a quantitative hedge fund in New York, to “cover the bills while working on his novels.” Jeff Bezos, who was a vice president at the time, interviewed her. It was the first time she saw him at the interview.
Scott’s debut novel, The Testing of Luther Albright, was published in 2005 and received the American Book Award in 2006. She said it took her ten years to write because she was helping Bezos create Amazon while giving birth and raising three children. His former teacher, Toni Morrison, called the book “a rarity: a sophisticated novel that breaks and lifts the spirit.” Traps, her second book, was published in 2013.
Scott and Bezos were married in 1993, and in 1994 they left E. Shaw, moved to Seattle, and formed Amazon. Scott was one of Amazon’s first hires, working on the company name, marketing strategy, accounts, and early delivery in the company’s early days. She also signed the company’s first freight contract. Scott took on a less active role at Amazon as the company grew, choosing to focus on his family and writing career.

My name is Robert Salamon! I was born in Novi Sad, Serbia on November 12, 1976 in Yugoslavia! I have a brother Attila who is five years older! My dad’s body was a locksmith but unfortunately he is no longer alive, my mom is a cleaning lady at the local elementary school! we lived a normal family life, according to the Roman Catholic religion! when the South Slavic war started in 1991 I was 15 years old and my brother was on the front line of the war! very difficult years ensued for the family, the economic embargo only made our fate more difficult! there was no food in the shops, almost just bread with milk and liver pate! it was that we didn’t know for months that my brother was still alive! after two years he finally escaped from the army and told us to go from here to Hungary! it was especially difficult because we were people of Hungarian nationality, we were only born in Yugoslavia and we were doubly exposed to persecution of nationality !! my brother was valued for such mental traumas he has not been able to process since then !! we escaped across the border and received temporary accommodation for relatives living in Hungary !! we lived with them for 3 years when the remaining movables were sold in Yugoslavia and we were able to buy a ruined homestead on the prairie 35 km from the city of Szeged with that little money! My mom and brother have been living there ever since! I was later able to start a family with two beautiful children and two girls! Marietta and Eszter! Marietta is now 23 years old Eszter 18! unfortunately the farm burned to dust for 3 years so the whole family took to the streets, so we moved not to the street but to the empty barn, the whole family to a cow barn! but after a while my wife and I felt so much energy and spiritual strength that we came out to work in neighboring Austria to be able to save enough to at least make the farmhouse visible again! it worked on some level too! my mother and brother were able to move back into the residential building! but unfortunately both my and my wife’s health has deteriorated a lot from the 12 hours of constant night work a day! we can’t work like this for a long time, we are very afraid of that !! our older daughter was torn apart from us right away 3 years ago! she came to Switzerland for a family cleaning woman! The farm has 20 acres of arable land and 5 acres of pasture! our dream is to build a family house in this area that can comfortably accommodate the whole family! we could all finally have our own room and we could be provided with this area of land! but this land area could of course be expanded, we could add more land for forest! to pursue an organic farming from which the family could sustain itself and even offer its products for sale in urban markets! goat and sheep keeping, set up a milk processing plant! and it would be the greatest joy of course that the family could be together again and not scattered in 3 different countries in the world !! from this neither my wife nor my wife could get more happiness and joy than that the family could be together in Hungary again !!
