About Flipkart:
Just over a decade ago, Flipkart was just a dream for two former Amazon employees in India. It is now the country’s largest e-commerce retailer and has been directly brought into the longstanding war between Amazon and its US brick and mortar enemy.
Walmart has just announced the acquisition of Flipkart in an innovative business. The acquisition is reportedly the largest in the history of e-commerce and gives Walmart a share in one of the largest and fastest-growing online retail markets in the world, creating a massive conflict between the company and Amazon in a major emerging market.
Here is everything you need to know about what Flipkart is, its rating, a recent acquisition by Walmart, and what the repercussions can be for Indian consumers and rival Amazon.
Mother Hub BNL:
Flipkart is an e-commerce company based in Bengaluru, India, which was recently bought by American retail titan Walmart. The company was founded by former Amazon employees Binny Bansal and Sanchin Bansal in October 2007 and launched its own product line called DigiFlip, which includes laptop bags, tablets, USB flash drives, and sells a wide variety of products online, as Amazon does and mother hub located in Gurgaon.
The company is led by Sanchin Bansal as president and Kalyan Krishnamurthy as CEO. In 2016, Flipkart had approximately 30,000 employees and a revenue stream of $ 3 billion (£ 2.2 billion) in 2017. Its subsidiaries include Myntra, PhonePe, eBay.in, Ekart, Jeeves.co.in and Jabong.com.
On May 9, Walmart announced the acquisition of 77 percent of Flipkart for $ 16 billion (£ 11.7 billion) for a valuation of $ 20 billion (£ 14.7 billion), making it the largest acquisition of trade history and giving Walmart an important share in India’s rapidly growing e-commerce market.
