About Samsung:

In 1938, during the Japanese rule of Korea, Lee Byung-Chul (1910-1987) from a large family of landowners in Uiryeong County moved to the nearby city of Daegu and founded the Mitsuboshi Trading Company (Kabushiki Kaisha Mitsuboshi Shōkai)), or Samsung Sanghoe. Samsung started out as a small commercial enterprise with forty employees located in Su-dong (now Ingyo-dong). These were dried fish, locally grown food, and pasta. The business flourished and Lee moved his headquarters to Seoul in 1947. When the Korean War broke out, he was forced to leave Seoul. He started a sugar refinery in Busan called Cheil Jedang. In 1954, Lee founded Sheil Mojik and built the factory in Chimsan-dong, Daegu. It was the largest woolen mill of all time.

Samsung has branched out into many different areas. Lee has sought to make Samsung a leader in a wide range of industries. Samsung has moved into business lines such as insurance, securities, and retail.

In 1947, Cho Hong-Jai, the founder of the Hyosung Group, jointly invested in a new company called Samsung Mulsan Gongsa, or Samsung Trading Corporation, with Samsung founder Lee Byung-Chul. The trading company grew to become the present Samsung C&T Corporation. After a few years, Cho and Lee went their separate ways due to differences in management style. Cho wanted 30 stocks. The Samsung group was separated into the Samsung group and the Hyosung Group, Hankook Tire, and other companies.
